WHO WE AREThe International Organization for Migration (IOM) is part of the United Nations System as the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, with 175 member states and a presence in over 100 countries. IOM joined the United Nations system in September 2016.

ICEM's Council changes the Organization's name to the Intergovernmental Committee for Migration (ICM) in recognition of its increasing global role.
3 million migrants directly assisted by ICM.

1983
ICM extends the Migration for Development Programme to qualified nationals from African countries.

1985
Migration for Development Programmes are extended to Asia.4 million migrants directly assisted by ICM.

1986
One million Indo-Chinese refugees have
been assisted since 1975. -
1989
ICM becomes the International Organization for Migration (IOM) upon the amendment and ratification of the 1953 Constitution.
