United States – Last Thursday (27/10), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) celebrated young filmmakers from around the world at the 2016 PLURAL+ International Youth Video Festival and Awards.
United States - At 7.00pm on 27 October, in the Paley Center for Media, New York, young media makers from around the world will be honoured at the 2016 PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival and Awards.
The ceremony will be hosted by Victoria Pannell, a young New York community activist, and is open to the public. Selected from more than 300 video from 68 countries worldwide, PLURAL+ 2016 is honored to announce its four International Jury Winners.
29 September 2016 – A United Nations-backed inter-agency committee today launched two guides to assist aid workers worldwide in setting up sexual exploitation and abuse prevention and response systems in humanitarian settings.
“The reason we need these tools is because we are still having too many violations,” said William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at a panel discussion on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse at UN Headquarters in New York this afternoon, during which the guides were officially released.
New York – At Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus on 27 September, on behalf of IOM, Director General Swing signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fordham’s International Institute for Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA). The signed agreement strengthens relations between IOM and Fordham. IIHA was founded in 2001 in partnership with the Center for International Humanitarian Cooperation (CIHC).
New York - The Government of Belgium, represented by the Ministry of Development Cooperation, yesterday signed a framework agreement with IOM.
From 2017 onward, the Belgian Government intends to provide multi-annual funding to IOM in order to assist in managing migration in a human and orderly manner and promote international cooperation on migration.
New York - IOM yesterday (22/9) participated in an event on Health in the Context of Migration and Forced Displacement on the sidelines of the UN Summit on Refugees and Migrants in New York.
The panel, hosted by the Governments of Italy and Sri Lanka, and co-organized by IOM, UNHCR and WHO, included participants from Johns Hopkins University, the World Bank and the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC).
United Nations, New York - The UN Summit on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants, which took place on Monday (19/09) in New York, created a singular opportunity for the global community to forge a greater consensus on managing the world’s movements of migrants and refugees. This mega-trend of the 21st Century now represents unprecedented human mobility, with one of every seven people worldwide living or working somewhere other than their place of birth.
New York - Member States of the United Nations (UN), through the General Assembly, today unanimously adopted a resolution approving the Agreement to make the International Organization for Migration (IOM) a Related Organization of the UN. The Agreement outlines a closer relationship between IOM and the UN to strengthen the cooperation and enhance their ability to fulfil their respective mandates in the interest of migrants and Member States. Through the Agreement the UN recognizes IOM as an indispensable actor in the field of human mobility.
United Nations – At the opening of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, IOM Director General William Lacy Swing warned that growing anti-migration sentiment in Europe is unnecessarily endangering the lives of migrants, while ignoring the overall benefit that migration has historically provided worldwide.
