Briefing by IOM UN Office Director Mr. Ashraf El Nour on International Cooperation on Migration at Muhlenberg College - 25 October 2019
On Friday 25th October 2019 Mr. Ashraf El Nour, Director of the IOM Office to the UN, gave a speech at Muhlenberg College to approximately 100 students and interested members of the university community. Mr. El Nour spoke about the history of the International Organisation for Migration, the current state of play with regards to migration in the international sphere, and the development and adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM). The event was a great opportunity for students to learn about what we can look forward to in the future of international migration governance, and the challenges that we face in making this future a brighter one. In particular, students were interested in learning more about the difference between the international architecture governing laws for refugees and those for migrants, as well as what the future impacts of climate change on migration might be.
